I recently took a day trip to the Royal Senchi Hotel in Akosombo. With travel restrictions lifting, I’m slowly trying to get into leaving the house more, taking all the necessary precautions to do so. I wasn’t quite ready for an overnight stay yet, but this day trip was the perfect way to get used to outside being open again. I was traveling with a friend and her family (we’ve still been quarantining and don’t see anyone besides our family). The drive to Senchi took about two hours, with not much traffic on the way. It’s a pretty nice drive up, especially if you have your favorite playlists on to karaoke to.
We made a stop at the Adomi Bridge because I had never seen it, and the view from the bridge is so beautiful. There were a few drinks spots and restaurants lining the bridge as well if you wanted to make that an actual rest stop on your way to Akosombo proper.
The Royal Senchi is an absolutely beautiful resort. The grounds are lush, the views of the river are magnificent, and there’s quite a bit of acreage if you like taking long walks like I do.
At the gate, we were checked for masks and asked to sanitize our hands, but that was about as much enforcement of COVID protocol they had. Once you entered the shared spaces of the resort, it was up to individuals to make sure they followed social distancing and masking, so it didn’t feel very safe in that regard. We were only there for a few hours, but there were also more people in the shared spaces than we had anticipated, with no enforced regulation of those numbers. If you have health anxiety, or need to know that the resort you’ll be staying at is a bit more strict with COVID rules, then I would say to make some enquiries about that specifically before booking a night.
We took walks on the grounds, used the pool, walked by the river bank, and just chilled for a couple hours. It was a beautiful space to just take a break from the cycle of everyday life in Accra.
I had a good time, and would definitely go again although maybe in a post COVID world. Have you taken any day trips lately? I’m thinking of where next to go!
