The Best Red Lipsticks for Dark Skin
For the longest time, I was afraid to wear red lipsticks. I would have friends, attempting to be helpful, point out that I couldn’t really pull off bright colors like red with dark skin. Now, I definitely have come to a place where I wear what I want but I do know that it’s not always that simple.
I remember the first red lip I bought was Mac Ruby Woo- likely every dark skinned girl’s first red. It’s blue toned and blends into dark complexions really well. I tried it on, fell in love, and have been wearing it ever since.
The key to red lipsticks, I think, is finding an undertone that works for you. I tend to go for blue toned reds as they are more universally flattering, and also make your teeth look extra white. Over time, my red lip collection has expanded, now including some cheaper options like the one I’m wearing in this photo- NYX Monte Carlo.
I think if there’s ever a time to get red lipsticks , it’s now as we’re heading into Christmas season. For every holiday party, you honestly can wear whatever you want and slick your hair back, swipe on a red lipstick and look like a million bucks.
I think it’s the perfect accessory as well as it leaves you feeling bold and confident (I promise this is science). Like I usually say, don’t stop yourself from enjoying things because of your skin color- especially re makeup and beauty. When I got my first red lipstick, it motivated me into getting other brights like pinks and true purples that I had been afraid to try before. Jump in the deep end, you know.
I have below a bunch of my favorite red lipsticks for dark skin, and some others that are similar in undertone and texture. And even if you  aren’t dark- there’s definitely a red lip out there for everyone.
