ColourPop Haul; I Went a Little Super Shock Crazy
Colourpop Cosmetics started as a Youtube brand- I remember seeing Kathleen Lights review their products and talk about this affordable indie brand, and thinking how beautiful of an aesthetic they had. They started out with the ultra matte lips which were all the rage about two years ago. I bought a few of them, but have since given them up because the Colourpop ultra matte formula can get ridiculously drying on the lips. Since then, the brand has expanded into regular formula lipsticks, lipglosses, eyeshadows, blushes, and even complexion products. This go around, I decided to get a few of their eyeshadows to try out. I especially wanted to try their matte eyeshadows as I had this Burgundy eye shadow look in my head that I had to recreate.
The ColourPop site describes this as a warm satin Burgundy red, and I think it’s a pretty accurate description. It is by no means a bright red, but it has a gorgeous dark depth to it that I really enjoy. It applies pretty true to color even on my skin tone, and you can quite easily build it up to get a more intense color if you want it. On a more lazy makeup day, you could definitely also just swipe it on your eyes to bring some drama and interest to a simple vintage tee and dark denim outfit.
This is described as a burnt orange with gold glitter. It swatches so beautifully on the arm, giving you that gorgeous warm orange it promises to be, but on my eyes it took a lot of building up to get it somewhat close to color. I wet my brush with Fix plus, and I also tried just using my finger to apply. The color is so pretty (I originally meant this to be an orange blush but it’s a little too warm for that) but a little underwhelming on dark skin. It might work well with a white base, but I didn’t try that.
Described as a mattened deep coral, Shop appears to me to be a tad bit more peach than coral. I got this shade because I felt it would be a good transition color for Paradox, and it did work out that way. It was really good for blending out the edges of the darker red, and made the transition up to my browbone look quite diffused. It applied a touch patchy but with a large fluffy blending brush, it did the job like a dream.
The shadows feel absolutely luxurious to touch, they are velvety and almost bouncy. I love the very unique texture of them. I also really love how affordable they are given their amazing quality, at $5 a piece- you really can’t beat it. Colourpop is one of the few brands that ships to Ghana with no customs hassle. They offer free delivery if you spend more that $50, so that is also a plus in my books. Do you guys use Colourpop? Do you have any specific eyeshadows that you love and think I should try? Or are there any other ColourPop products you think are a must-have? Let me know in the comments!
As always, sending you love and light,
