MEET THE BLOGGER Q&A

I started this blog a few years ago, and have done one Meet the Blogger or About Me post in all that time. I thought, since I have redesigned it and am committing more fully to it now, that it would be a great time to re introduce myself and this blog to you. In the mode of fun(I hope) Questions and Answers, here is my re introduction of myself!

What is your name?

My name is actually the name of this blog– Amoafoa. I was named after my great grandmother. It’s a very uncommon name and I started using it more because it was disappearing since most people couldn’t pronounce it. Using it online is my way of making sure I can honour its history in my family.

Where are you from?

I am Ghanaian, born and raised, for the most part, in Accra.

What do you do?

I am a student, and fashion and beauty blogger. I study postcolonial literature and culture theory, with a current focus on postcolonial Italy and African immigrant literature in Italian. This blog is an outlet for me to gush about my favorite fashion finds, beauty products I love, lessons I’ve learned, and my travel/food experiences.

What are your favorite qualities in yourself?

I think I am a very honest person, and that’s good for connecting with people. I care about being able to be vulnerable and have important conversations with them. I’m also very tenacious and don’t give up literally ever. I think I need to work on my consistency and time management though.

What’s your favorite book?

Oh I love so many different books for different reasons. I think Oyeronke Oyewumi’s The Invention of Women was a really important one in shaping my approach to academia and life in general though.

What’s your favorite place you’ve been?

Definitely Tuscany. So stunning, so calm, and wow the food. Listen, Italian food slaps different.

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Not to be presumptuous, but Viola Davis. Just, yes Viola Davis.

What is your biggest dream?

I really want to be able to travel and photograph the places I go. I would love to be able to blog like Asiyami, just showing regular black girls that beautiful lives are for us too.

I hope these questions give you a better sense of who I am and my motivations for this website.
