There’s something about linen and colors in the range of mustard yellow that just embody summer to me. I think it’s just that growing up my mom had all these linen dresses and tops she would throw and go, or dress up for fancier occasions, and Accra weather just is summer all year every year. I think the fabric is the most breathable for hot weather, as I mention in this post here and you really can’t go wrong with it.
It’s definitely a pricier fabric, the process of extracting it is quite the process, but because it’s woven with more spaces between the fibers it works really well for ventilation. I bought the fabric from a vendor in Accra, and got my tailor to make this for me, and I really love how it turned out. The fabric I got is a bit stiffer than usual linen but I think it works for the style I got this dress made in.
As a fabric, it doesn’t have the best of reputations, as most people are afraid it will make them look like a sack, but there’s good reason it comes back every season and why it’s so popular each time. You just need to find the style, type of linen and length that best suits your body, and trust me you will love your piece year after year.
How do you guys like this dress? I think my tailor really came through for me. You can also have a browse through below and see if you find one you love!
