My Absolute Favorite Resorts In Ghana

MY TOP RESORTS IN GHANA

top five resorts in Ghana

In case the name of my blog didn’t give it away, I am a bit of a travel enthusiast. I spent the first eighteen years of my life in pretty much the same place, only venturing two hours away for boarding school, but I always felt like I wanted to be able to see the world. Since then, I have been able to add to the list of places I have lived in, or spent a day walking through and loved; but I realized that I don’t know much about what Ghana looks like outside of Accra. It is a situation I hope to remedy soon, but as I speak it into my future and work to manifest it, I thought I would share my top getaway resorts in Ghana. These are a tad bit more aspirational for me, and are more of -treat yourself’ locations than just ‘I want a quick hotel to stay at.’

MY PICK OF RESORTS IN GHANA

ZAINA LODGE

At the tip top of my list of resorts in Ghana would have to be Zaina Lodge. I came across it as I was just searching the internet for travel inspiration, and it looks  stunning in all the images I found. Zaina Lodge is located on the grounds of the Mole National Park in the Northern Region of Ghana. The resort describes itself as Ghana’s premier safari resort, as one can look out onto endless savannah and see countless protected animal species from the balcony of your accommodation of choice. Guests can request walking tours or take safari vehicles to be introduced to the park’s wildlife.

The lodge provides accommodations in the form of twenty five luxury tented chalets (the sound of that alone) complete with private balconies and indoor and outdoor showers.

According to the reviews I found, the food is phenomenal, as is the service. A big part of their ethos seems to be involving community businesses and integrating the experience of staying with them with the wider community, and I think that’s such an important objective to have as a luxury vacation location.

I know that when most people think of resorts in Ghana, they immediately think of beaches but I thought this gem was far too stunning to overlook- and you get the safari experience in exchange for crashing waves so I feel like it is a total win.

LOU MOON LODGE

Second on my picks of resorts in Ghana is Lou Moon Lodge. This luxury location is near Axim in the Western Region. Lou Moon is located on a private beach cove, and is built completely from local materials. From the images I could find of it, it seems to exist in complete harmony with the natural environment around it. It looks like it would be the most calming weekend getaway you could ever gift yourself.

Accommodations wise, the lodge gives you the options of choosing between more exclusive spots on the peninsula that makes up part of the lodge’s grounds, or rooms with a bay view; or with a hillside view. The lodge provides excellent food and service, again, according to the reviews I could find.

My biggest pull for this place is that it is so incredibly aesthetically pleasing that I don’t know how you could have a bad time there. Of the resorts in Ghana that I have come across, this seems the most integrated with its surroundings when it comes to aesthetic choices such as the coloring of the buildings and the materials used for them; and also how much thought seems to have gone into landscaping. It’s truly quite a beauty.

WHITE SANDS BEACH RESORT

If what you are looking for is a getaway that is private and hidden away from the ordinary business of life, White Sands would be my suggestion for you. This resort emphasizes seclusion in its guiding principles, and it seems dedicated to giving you the experience of your own bit of lush paradise for as long you are a guest there.

This resort is located in Gomoa Fetteh, only about an hour from Accra, which makes it the easiest location to get to of my three resorts listed here. White Sands gives guests the option to choose from ten chalets, each one furnished with a private plunge pool and private garden. As I mentioned earlier, this resort emphasizes creating a private getaway that makes it ideal for couples too I think. I personally am not boo’d up but I would be heading there if I were.

Like Zaina, White Sands is also committed to integrating its community, here Gomoa Fetteh, in the activities that guests can engage in. I think conscious effort like that is important for luxury locations as their mundane routines that keep them running and looking so glorious are often funded by the work and produce of locals.

White Sands also has a beach club that is separate from the resort, so you could check that out before committing to a weekend stay.
