Finding staycation experiences in and around Accra can be challenging. I’ve struggled to find hotels or resorts that had a unique offering and felt like good value for money without being too far out of the city. I was recently a guest of the Big Blue Resort, an hour and a half drive away from central Accra and a short drive from Kasoa, and I found it to fill that gap of a great beach staycation that still felt like a break from hustling city living. Read on for my experience and a generous discount they’re offering this October!
Arriving at the Big Blue resort, I was struck by the architecture and how intentional the design of the space was. The resort offers a variety of types of suites which each have a unique architectural element to them. Four suites, two junior suites and two family suites, are designed in a communal space called the African Village which takes inspiration from traditional building and design techniques, featuring thatched roofs, cane furniture and a dark tan color palette.
In another section, four suites make up the Sea View villas, with design reminiscent of a sea front property. The main section of the resort, where the main pool and dining area are located. are designed to have the feeling of a beach club, with cabanas, beaded and macrame curtains, and the white plaster finish you might find on the Swahili coast.
We were greeted with a warm welcome and assisted to our rooms by the staff of the resort whose easy smiles and helpful demeanours made our time there relaxing.
Discount on all rooms : This October, the Big Blue Resort is offering 20% off all rooms, inclusive of horse riding, kayaking, table tennis, pool table, beach volleyball, a soccer pitch and a playground area for kids!
Activities: The resort offers kayaking and horse riding, which usually come at a separate cost but, for the month of October, are included in the room cost.
Booking: You can make a booking on the website here: Big Blue Resort Booking
Accommodations at the Big Blue take the form of a variety of suites and standard rooms. You can make a selection between Garden Suites, Suites at the African Village, Sea View Villas, a Presidential Suite, and a number of standard rooms that the resort is adding to.
The Garden Suites have the widest range with 8 suites available, and you can choose between 4 African Village chalets and 4 Sea View Villas. The relatively smaller number of suites available mean that the resort doesn’t feel overrun with guests, and you can experience the relaxing holiday you dreamed of.
The food at the Big Blue was 10/10. Breakfast was served with options of waffles, pancakes, eggs, juices, teas, you name it. The meals are all prepared on order and not buffet style, so you do have to let the staff know about 30 minutes early what you would want for your meal. All the food we had was delicious and the fish in particular was stellar.
The Big Blue also has an in-house bar where the bartenders craft delicious cocktails and mocktails for your enjoyment.
The Big Blue Resort is a lovely place to hide away for a weekend, sitting by one of its four pools with a book and a cocktail, walking along the beach, or indulging your adventurous side in a kayak or horse riding experience. With such a good location from Accra, and the attention to detail that is evident in every aspect of the resort, it should definitely be in the running for your next holiday.
DISCLAIMER: I was a guest of the Big Blue Resort, and as such my time with them was complimentary. All opinions, thoughts, and photographs are my own.

I decided to throw on this yellow ruffle top and bright floral skirt because I’ve been in such a mood lately. I’m feeling kind of low for no reason that immediately comes to mind. I think the weather being grey might have something to do with it. Being from a warm tropical country, I take the absence of sunlight quite hard. Since there’s no sun outside, I decided to be…
With silver taking over the runways this year, it’s easy to forget the magic that a good statement piece of gold jewellery can bring to an outfit. Read on for some of the best gold accessories under $100.
I am a mini skirt fiend and, considering how rarely I shave my legs, I have amassed quite the collection over the years. This navy blue one I’m wearing is a personal favorite. I got it in a Zara sale for five euro two years ago- wow how time flies. As per usual, I decided to put my internet crawling skills to use to find you guys the best mini…
Hello everyone, it’s ya girl Amoafoa back at it again. I cannot say how thankful I am for all of you who have been here with me and have criticized, complimented, contributed to the growth of this my section of the internet and to my own growth. To all of you who are new to this site, welcome and I hope we can grow together. The expat mannequin began…
The gif of New York going ‘ Beyoncé ?!’ has to be my favorite thing on the internet, but that is entirely besides the point of this blog post. This camo top and wide leg jeans outfit is very typical for me. My outfit formula is usually crop + high waisted loose fitting bottoms, so this is definitely peak comfort zone. I loved this picture the most out of the…
Hi guys! I just wanted to put this post together to provide some inspiration for winter coats since it’s getting colder. I thought to collate a few in different colors, finishes and price ranges for you. I am always online shopping in my spare time so I think I will make this a series on my blog. For these posts, I will just put a collection of my favorites in…
