The Perfect Floral Dress for Summer

My first ever blog post was on floral dresses and how I could never find any good ones. It seems only fitting that I come back with this gorgeous floral after my rather long hiatus.

Blogging for me is a way to share my style journey with you, and to document for myself the way that my tastes change. It serves to remind me that I also am forever changing, always growing. Two years ago, I hated floral dresses- now I spend a little too much time poring over them searching for the perfect one. I think this one comes pretty close.

For  me the perfect floral is unobtrusive. The pattern directs your eye easily over the body, and it enhances the person in it rather than take the figure over. I truly feel like making the perfect floral is such a delicate art and so when I found this one that got it right, I knew I had to share it with you.

This dress is from Forever 21, and so it will not break the bank. I love how much white space there is and how it’s positioned to create a visually interesting negative space. The pink and teal flowers would look beautiful on any skin tone, and are just large enough that you notice them but without taking over completely.

The dress also has a tie detail in the back, and an open back is my literal most favorite detail in a dress. To me, back has always been the real cleavage. There’s a subtlety to the femininity of a backless dress that is fully chic and fully barbie doll at the same time. This floral number also combines that open back with a mid thigh high side slit- can you tell I’m in love. Even the slit in the dress manages to not take over the look, and everything exists in harmonious balance on this piece.

I think I’ve found my summer nights floral dress, what do you think?

  1. Love love love everything you said about this dress. I agree an open back is almost sexier but definitely more subtle than cleavage. And floral patterns are really flattering! You are totally rocking this look!

  2. I’d have to agree. This dress is perfect! The colour is gorgeous, the print isn’t too loud and it shows just the right amount of skin! LOVE LOVE LOVE
