White T Shirt, Orange Shorts

Every season, there is always that one color that seems to be everywhere- on every runway and on every Instagram. This summer’s seems to be orange, and I’m going to show you how I like to wear it.

My orange shorts are an incredibly lucky find I got from a Zara sale last year when I was studying in Italy. While I can’t find the exact ones, many companies are making beautiful similar pieces which I will link below if you are interested.

What first drew me to these orange shorts was the color- they are the kind of orange that has a touch of nude/brown to them and so they’re more burnt sienna than full on say, red orange. This coloring definitely makes them more easily wearable, while still creating amazing visual impact.

The second reason I got them was the giant circular belt fastening on them. I mean, that color and the belt just gave such a vintage 70s vibe that I knew I needed them. I am a huge lover of 70s fashion so these with that vibe fit right in my wardrobe. The belt is a tarnished gold color so it’s not competing with the color of the shorts- it is such a harmonious piece.

An important tip when styling standout colors like orange is to get them in a shade that best suits you, particularly your skin undertones, and the other items in your wardrobe. It’s also important to get a piece where the style and cut are flattering to your body, and the add-ons don’t make it any more busy. Bright color plus too much going on can be difficult to pull off.

When I’m styling colors that are really bright, I like to tone everything else in the outfit down. In the same way that you would wear a bold print, you pair something super colorful with other pieces that let it shine.

My favorite basic piece is the plain white t shirt. This one from HM is the best one I have found so far as it’s quite long, has the perfect round neck, and also comes with the sleeves pre cuffed. It’s the kind of basic that does the exact job it’s meant to- pull the whole outfit together.

I found that the tee was casual enough to keep the look everyday daytime wearable, and I added on my platform sandals and a silver necklace to complete the outfit. I love minimal jewelry, and when styling a color like orange, I do think you want everything else somewhat more simple.

Let me know what you think of the orange trend and if you’re wearing it!
