What I Wear : Memory Lane

Editing these pictures was actually kind of fun when I decided I wanted to make them look like this. They remind me of this show that was on GTV when I was younger called Greetings from Abroad. Throwback anybody?

The focal point of this description will be my studded fringe bag.

Isn’t it so cute?

My friend Naa Kwaamah got it for me from Primark I think one summer, and there’s actually a bit of a story behind it.

She’d texted me and been all oohh Akua I bought you a bag. This was back in my struggle days when, nope I did not own a bag of own that wasn’t a boarding school approved backpack. I got so excited about it, I couldn’t. I just couldn’t. I was looking forward to it also because we were starting our first year of law school and so I was excited to have a cool bag to carry my laptop and all the books I’d be reading and such.

On the second day of orientation at The university of Ghana, I met Naki and she handed me this one. It was a rather hilarious five minutes after. I was shocked that she’d got one so small, and all my dreams of a fly law school bag came tumbling down the fringes of this cute little thing. Naki couldn’t stop laughing at me, it was really quite a sight.

About two years down the line, the love for this bag is going strong and I wear it when I’m not carrying the kitchen sink and then some with me. I always have an overflowing bag, always. (I got a massive wool like one from Urban Outfitters to cater to that)

This bag has seen me through family and church get togethers and just chilling around town. It’s great because the fringe trend came back, and guess who’s prepared?

I now have a thing for tiny bags that can barely hold anything, and I think this is where it started…

Peace, love, and funk,

Amoafoa.
