WHY DIPTYQUE FLEUR DE PEAU IS MY SIGNATURE SCENT
DIPTYQUE FLEUR DE PEAU
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first perfume, ‘L’Eau’, the Parisian perfume house, Diptyque, released a special line of fragrances. Fleur de Peau was one of the scents in this lineup and I was kindly gifted a bottle by the brand. This scent has now become my ultimate favorite – my signature scent– and I wear it religiously in the daytime and nighttime and for any and all events.Â
In the past, I would have described my perfume tastes as leaning towards floral, quite partial to rose accents and creamy cashmere bases. Every other scent I own, besides Dolce and Gabbana’s the One, follows this olfactory pattern as you can see in this blog post. Â
Fleur de Peau is a rather stark deviation from this predilection with musk, sandalwood and leather being the main base notes; and pink pepper and bergamot being the top notes. On me, it smells like clean skin with a light curtain of sophistication and enveloping warmth. Â It is exactly like Rachel Symes describes in this New York Times article ‘the olfactory equivalent of no makeup-makeup‘.
This quality of smelling like you but better makes it incredibly easy to wear for any events and at all times of the day. I never worry that it is too sharp, too light, too musky, too dark, because it just smells like me. Fleur de Peau will likely be the first perfume I run through. It lasts a long time on the skin, however, and I have been using the same bottle not at all judiciously since August.Â
I find the understated nature of this scent quite sexy, as it gives a bit of a barely there hint of something that keeps you guessing. It lives up to its name quite well, ‘Fleur de Peau’ translating loosely to ‘on edge’.Â
I love this scent, and definitely recommend if you are on the hunt for a clean musk that feels light but also has a little bit of a kick. You can shop this fragrance here.Â
