Why The White Top is My Go-To Basic

how to style white shirt

I love me a good white top. I think creating a good wardrobe starts with getting yourself a solid foundation of basics. Over time, I have collected a couple of good neutral pieces that I love because they go with everything. I think I mentioned in this post how I like to wear simple classic styles and jazz them up with an interesting accessory, or sometimes when I’m feeling particularly funky, a printed piece. Because of this, I take my neutral basics quite seriously. My favorites of all my basics, however, has to be crisp white top. It doesn’t matter if it’s a button down, a cami, or an interesting off shoulder one- I think white tops are the range of things you need the most in your wardrobe.

Most fashion blog posts that try to guide consumers on what items are worth investing in will tell you that your basic t shirts, camis, and underwear are the most important components of your wardrobe; and I wholeheartedly agree. I think it can be easy to get swept up in trends and end up buying everything mustard, lilac or polka dotted you see; only to find, a season later, that you don’t even like polka dots and they look awful with everything else you own. I think pay the closest attention to your basics- to the color of them (all whites, blacks, and greys are no made equal); to the fit of them, and to how they make you feel when you wear them. I think that last one is the most important one- don’t buy a bunch of tight white camis when you know you don’t like having to see the folds in your back, Amoafoa.

This shirt, like so many other of my shirts, was borrowed from my brother’s wardrobe. He wasn’t going to give it it’s proper use but I sure as day would. White shirts bring in so much light and effortlessness to any outfit pairing, and make you look even more tanned and bronzy than you naturally are. I love how a stark stark white looks against my skin, and I also really enjoy that I can trust it won’t clash with anything, but will just provide the canvas my other pieces need to show more personality.

I chose this top for this outfit because I love how it pulls out the brightness of my green velvet pants, and I think it works really well with my platforms($5 from HM btw).

How do you guys like this outfit?

As always, sending you love and light,

Amoafoa.
